In China, unidentified microblog users attempted to stir up a “jasmine revolution” in Wangfujing. This call for revolution created a giant deployment of uniformed police, plain clothed police, as well as the civilians in red armbands used as an unarmed militia used to assist police with major security operations. As many as 16 news organizations claimed that their staff of reporters who were attempting to cover the story was harassed, assaulted and deprived of their equipment by police. Jon Huntsman, America’s outgoing ambassador was seen in Wangfujing the day of the planned riot. Although he claims it was a coincidence, after he issued a strong statement against the authorities who abused foreign journalists, he caused friction with the Chinese government and his name has become a blocked search term in China. This “jasmine revolution” simply created police deployment and fears, as well as dislike for the foreign media.

It will be interesting to see how long it takes for the "Jasmine Revolution" to take place. History has shown that eventually the people will rise up no matter how many police officers are used. When the police force itself turns from the government, it will be interesting to see the people's reaction.
